SUBSTANCE: method for determining the microstructure of rain includes the formation of a beam collimated vertically and sector in the horizontal plane by the emitter, monitoring the power of the emitter using the first receiver, recording pulses of light scattered by precipitation particles flying through the working area using the second receiver, which is positioned in front of the emitter above its optical axis so that the product of three factors: the ratio of the distance L1 from the emitter to the border of the working area closest to the emitter to the distance L2 from the emitter to the far border of the working area, the square of the ratio of the distance l1 from the second receiver to the border of the working zone nearest to the emitter to the distance l2 from the second receiver to the border of the working zone farthest from the emitter, and the ratio of the scattering indicatrix of a spherical raindrop on the border of the working zone farthest from the receiver J2 to the scattering indicatrix on the border of the working zone near the emitter J1, was close to one.
EFFECT: increase in the reliability of measurements and the accuracy of determining the microstructure of precipitation due to the fact that the same particles in different parts of the working area form light pulses of the same amplitude and the same shape.
