FIELD: hydrometry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of hydrometry and oceanography, namely to methods of measuring the height of slopes of waves. In method of determining two-dimensional distribution of slopes of waves on water surface surface area is irradiated with bright collimated beam of light, reflected reflections are recorded on frosted screen located above surface, measuring illumination of screen in its various points. Additionally distance from surface to screen is recorded. For this purpose, next to the illuminated surface area, a hydrophilic string is pulled, which is illuminated with another light source, and a glare position is recorded on the meniscus, which is formed on the string at the point of its intersection with the water surface. Position of the glare on the screen is uniquely related to the slope of the illuminated section of the surface and the distance from the surface to the screen. Summarizing the illumination intensity of each point of the screen taking into account the current height, calculating the full two-dimensional probability density of distribution of slopes. In order for the string illumination to affect the illumination of the screen to be less, reflection of reflected reflections on the screen and registration of the flare at the line meniscus can be carried out in different spectral ranges.
EFFECT: technical result is high accuracy of measurements, possibility of obtaining complete two-dimensional distribution and further calculation of all distribution elements on any axis.
