FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of hydrometry and oceanography and relates to a method for measuring the height of waves and the tilt angles of the water surface relative to the equilibrium state thereof. In implementation of the method, a laser beam is directed vertically downward, the upper boundary of flashing of the surface by the laser beam is recorded using a digital video camera, and the boundary of flashing with allowance for calibration is converted into applicates of waves. The laser beam scans over the surface by the known space-time law with the video recording frequency, and the instant profile of the surface along the scanning path is calculated with allowance for the space-time scanning law and the rate of surface height change at each point of the path.
EFFECT: increased accuracy of measurement.
