SUBSTANCE: invention is related in particular to methods for determining the tensile strength of ceramic and composite materials, and can be used in determining the strength and elastic characteristics of materials. Working area of the sample is heated to a predetermined temperature at a rate of 5-150°C/s using infrared toroidal lamps mounted on the side of the gripping parts of the sample. During the heating process, the heat rays of toroidal lamps are focused at an angle of 15°-75° on the working area of the sample.

EFFECT: approximating test conditions to operational and thermal loads, expanding the range of heating rates, and providing the possibility of determining the elastic characteristics of the sample material.
