SUBSTANCE: used in radar stations (RLS) in which an active phased antenna array (APAA) is used as an antenna. The shape of the transmitting directional pattern is selected corresponding to the detection zone in elevation, the factors are found at which the weighted sum of the transmitting partial beams distributed in elevation is the transmitting directional pattern corresponding to the shape of the detection zone in elevation, the antenna is oriented and set transmitting the radiation pattern in azimuth for reviewing a region of space in elevation in a given azimuth direction. Probing pulses are emitted by a transmitting active phased antenna array in turn by each transmitting partial beam, and the amplitudes of the transmitting partial beams, proportional to the found factors, are set by turning off part of the transmitting channels of the active phased antenna array while maintaining the width of the transmitting partial beams in elevation. Next, the receiving beams are distributed along each of the transmitting partial beams, changing the number of receiving beams depending on the width of the corresponding transmitting partial beam in the azimuthal plane. The power of the reflected signals is received and accumulated sequentially by all receiving beams distributed along each of the transmitting partial beams, after which they proceed to the survey of space in the next azimuth direction by mechanical or electrical scanning in azimuth.

EFFECT: increase in the power flux compression of the target in each transmitting beam with a two-fold reduction in the time of review of the detection zone.
