SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in continuous production of products that crystallize with an open surface to control the quality of the surface while detecting defects such as cracks, non-metallic inclusions, shells, swelling. The method includes sequential execution of the following operations: illumination of the surface of the product by means of an optical range light source, primary shooting of the product surface, analysis of the obtained image of the product surface, which is performed by neural network methods with selection of defects in the surface image with a quadrangular frame, the determination of the maximum overall size and the classification of defects on the surface of the product, and if the normalized value of the defect size is exceeded, a marking is applied to the surface of the product, by analysing the image of which the movement of products with marking and without marking on the conveyor in different directions is then separated.

EFFECT: use of the invention makes it possible to expand the technological capabilities of the control method.
