FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: methods for increasing the life and reliability of machine parts operating under cyclic loads, and can be used to increase the fatigue life of compressor and turbine blades used in aircraft construction. Method for processing a flat billet made of titanium alloy with a stress concentrator includes processing the surface of a flat metal billet by laser impact action of a laser beam having a square profile, without overlapping, with the location of imprints butt-to-butt in one layer. The laser impact area includes a zone of a stress concentrator of a metal billet, in which, for the duration of processing, an insert is placed and fixed, which is made of the same material as the billet, and in response repeats the shape of the stress concentrator along the entire length of the contact between the insert and the billet, complementing the stress concentrator zone billet to rectangular shape laser processing area.
EFFECT: increased fatigue life of the billet under the influence of a cyclic load.
