SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is directed to the treatment of cancer of the nervous system. The use of a compound of formula (IIa) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof for the treatment or prevention of cancer of the central nervous system in a subject is disclosed, where X is -(CH2)n-X', where n is 0 to 6, and X' is -CHO, -OH, -OR or -OC(=O)R, where R is methyl; R1 is -OH or -O(P(=O)(OH)O)nH where n is 1 to 3; and R2 is -OH. In addition, a kit for the treatment or prevention of cancer of the central nervous system is disclosed, containing a compound of formula (IIa) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and another anticancer agent, which is temozolomide or 5-fluorouracil, a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment or prevention of cancer of the central nervous system, and also the use of the above compound for the preparation of a medicament for the treatment or prevention of cancer of the central nervous system in a subject.
