FIELD: test equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to determine sections of steel underground pipelines with broken insulation subject to stress corrosion. Measurement of the signal of the mechanical stress scanner, the value of which correlates with the value of mechanical stresses in the pipeline wall and, as a result, with the content of hydrogen in its metal, from pipes of two adjacent sections of an underground pipeline with broken and unbroken insulation and a comparison of its value, taking into account the results of laboratory calibration tests of plates made of pipeline material during their hydrogenation and signal measurement by the same sensor, makes it possible to determine the hydrogen content in the pipeline metal in the area with broken insulation and make a conclusion on its susceptibility to stress corrosion and the need for replacement.
EFFECT: detection of broken insulation.
