FIELD: protection of underground metallic structures against corrosion, possibly correction of cathode protection mode of underground pipelines while taking into account their electrolytic hydrogen absorption.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of regulating polarization potential on pipeline; determining in addition value of limit electric current for electric reduction of oxygen, cathode protection current and relation of cathode protection electric current to limit electric current for electric reduction of oxygen; comparing such relation with its ultimately admissible value determined at taking into account intensity of electrolytic hydrogen absorption of pipeline wall and set no more than 50. If value of said relation exceed its admissible value cathode protection mode is changed or damage of insulation coating of pipeline is removed.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of cathode protection of underground pipelines.
