FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: new method for the production of para-aminophenol and zinc acetate by reducing para-nitrosophenol with metallic zinc in an acetic acid medium. This method includes the following steps: a) preparing a solution of para-nitrosophenol in acetic acid; b) feeding the solution from step a) into the reactor with an inert atmosphere with stirring and forced maintenance of the temperature in the range from 40 to 55°C; c) dosing zinc metal powder into the reactor at a controlled feed rate; d) stirring the reaction mixture until the reaction is complete while maintaining the temperature in the range from 40 to 55°C; e) cooling the reaction mixture to 3-7°C for complete isolation of finely crystalline zinc acetate from the reaction solution; f) withdrawing the reaction mixture from the reactor into a nutsche filter; g) separating solid zinc acetate as retentate and a solution of para-aminophenol in acetic acid as permeate; h) washing the zinc acetate on the filter with glacial acetic acid; i) withdrawing the solution of para-aminophenol in acetic acid from the nutsche filter and obtaining the final product of para-aminophenol either individually or as a solution; j) drying the solid zinc acetate and discharging it from the nutsche filter to obtain the final zinc acetate product.
EFFECT: cheap and readily available reagents, as well as a decrease in the amount of waste for disposal, and allows, without the use of special equipment, to obtain and isolate several economically significant products that are hardwarily and technologically simple, providing high purity and modern yield.
