FIELD: medicine; virology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the use of the polyphenol complex of Amur maakia wood (PFC), the active substance of Maxar®, as an antiviral agent against human herpesvirus type I and enterovirus B. The proposed agent has low cytotoxic activity against Vero cells and effectively inhibits the replication of human herpesvirus type I and enterovirus B when directly exposed to the virus (virucidal effect): 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) was 16.5± 2.1 μg/ml and the selective index (SI) indicating the effectiveness and safety of the compound, was 78.2±8.5, the claimed agent exhibits a moderate virucidal effect against enterovirus B (IC50 = 28.8±3; SI=42±4.8). The agent exhibits a virus-inhibiting effect (effect on virus-infected cells) in the treatment of human herpesvirus type I (IC 50 = 19.0± 2.5; SI=63.8± 6.8) and enterovirus B (IC 50 =35.8± 4.6; SI=33.8± 3.4).
EFFECT: expanding the arsenal of antiviral agents against human herpesvirus type I and enterovirus B.
