FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: studying the structural state of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Method for processing PET samples includes scratching the surface of the sample with a cutting tool under a load of the cutting tool within 500-1000 g in various directions, revealing elements of the supramolecular structure in the scratched layers, using an optical microscope to record and study the information obtained. A square hardened steel plate is used as a cutting tool. Scratches with a cutting edge are applied in layers parallel to the sample surface with the plate plane forward, with the plane inclined to the sample surface at an angle of 60 ± 5° in different directions until the microstructure in the macroelements is revealed. The sample is notched and the notched parts are torn off with the formation of a kink on both surfaces, newly formed upon separation, revealing the organization of elements in the layers of the supramolecular structure in the volume of the sample.
EFFECT: expanding the functionality of the method by obtaining reliable and more complete information about the macro- and microstructural state in the layers of the studied polyethylene terephthalate.
