FIELD: polymer physics. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to material engineering and polymer physics and can be used in plastics processing, in particular, in medical technics when manufacturing intraocular lenses to evaluate quality of blanks and final articles. Method consists in plotting calibration dependence, one of parameters of this dependence is molecular mass, for polymer with the same chemical composition as the composition of polymer being examined; comparing control parameter of polymer being examined with calibration dependence; and evaluating molecular mass of amorphous linear polymer from this dependence. According to invention, as second parameter of calibration dependence and control parameter of polymer under examination, number of microstructures per unit area of fractogram surface is chosen, which is determined before comparison of control parameter of polymer under examination with indicated calibration dependence. For that, at least two samples of polymers with known molecular mass and one sample of polymer being examined are subjected to brittle destruction.
