FIELD: analytical chemistry of elements.

SUBSTANCE: invention is related to methods for the identification of terbium (III), and can be used in its identification in technological solutions, natural and industrial waters. Identification of terbium content includes preparing the sorbent, extracting terbium (III) from the solution with the sorbent, converting terbium (III) into a complex compound, separating the sorbent from the solution, measuring the luminescence intensity of the terbium (III) surface complex, and identifying the terbium content. Silica, successively modified with polyhexamethylene guanidine and 1,2-dihydroxobenzene-3,5-disulfonic acid, is used as a sorbent. The extraction is carried out at pH 6.0-8.0 with formation on the surface of the sorbent of a complex compound of terbium (III) with 1,2-dihydroxobenzene-3,5-disulfoxylate that luminesces at room temperature. Measurement of the intensity of the luminescence of the sorbent is carried out at 546 nm. The identification of the terbium content is carried out according to the calibration curve.

EFFECT: method allows to reduce the limit of detection, simplify the technique and reduce the duration of the analysis.
