FIELD: analytical chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry and can be used in the determination of yttrium (III) in technological solutions, natural and man-made waters. The method for determining yttrium (III) includes preparation of a sorbent, extraction of yttrium (III) from a solution by a sorbent, conversion of yttrium (III) into a complex compound, separation of the sorbent from the solution, measurement of the luminescence intensity of the surface complex of yttrium(III) with 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid and determination of the content of yttrium. Silica sequentially modified with polyhexamethylene guanidine and 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid is used as a sorbent. The specified sorbent is introduced in a solution containing yttrium (III), having a pH of 7-8, mixed for 10 minutes. The luminescence intensity of the sorbent is measured at 485 nm, and the determination of the yttrium content is carried out according to a calibration schedule.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to simplify the determination of the content of yttrium (III), reduce the detection limit.
