SUBSTANCE: invention relates namely to a method for classifying soils by thermal state based on temperature distribution curves in the soil profile, which are built on the basis of preliminary processing of a two-dimensional array of temperature measurements in the thermal IR range (λ=7.5-14.0 mcm), as a result of which the classification of soils is carried out on the basis of an analysis of the characteristic features of the change in the soil temperature gradient with depth, determined from the temperature distribution graph T(h) in the soil profile. A method for classifying soils by thermal state based on an IR profile survey, characterized in that the soil classification is performed according to the configuration of the T(h) curve and the change in temperature gradients along the curve (ΔT/Δh ) in comparison with possible model variants, among which the first class of soils is characterized by a clearly different transition from a linear to an exponential section of the curve and an abrupt change in the slope of the curve at the boundary of the organogenic horizon, the second class of soils is characterized by an exponential form of the temperature curve and a smooth change in the slope of the curve by boundary of the organogenic horizon, the third class of soils is characterized by a logarithmic temperature curve with a curve slope at each point of the graph close to a constant value; in soils of the fourth class, the temperature curve has a sawtooth shape with sporadic variations in the profile of the curve and the slope angles of the curve at each point of the curve of temperature change.

EFFECT: obtaining quantitative characteristics that reflect the patterns of temperature distribution T(h) in the soil profile, characteristic of various soil variants, followed by automatic classification of soils according to their thermal state.
