FIELD: monitoring by optical method.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a complex consisting of an oral care device and a system configured to provide an indication of the condition of human gums based on an assessment of whether or not blood is present in a sample containing human saliva. The system comprises a light emitting unit, a light receiving unit configured to receive light back from the sample, and an analysis unit configured to perform analysis of the light received by the light receiving unit and output an output signal corresponding to the condition of human gums. The measured light values are determined for one or more primary wavelengths associated with higher light absorption by the blood component, as well as one or more additional wavelengths associated with lower light absorption by the blood component. The measured value for the secondary wavelength is used to correct the measured value for the primary wavelength for background influence.
EFFECT: simplifying and increasing the reliability of assessing the condition of the gums during daily oral hygiene procedures.
