SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an oral care composition and a method of using same. Disclosed mouthwash comprises a soluble zinc amino acid halide complex, wherein the amino acid is lysine, in free form or in the form of an orally acceptable salt, wherein the zinc amino acid halide complex is a complex of lysine zinc chloride, having a chemical structure [Zn(C₆H₁₄N₂O₂)₂Cl]⁺Cl^-, or in solution in the form of a positively charged cation and a chloride anion, or in the form of a solid salt, optionally in the form of a mono- or dihydrate. Also disclosed is use of said zinc amino acid halide complex to produce a mouthwash, as well as a method for treating or reducing the abrasion of tooth enamel, suppressing caries of the teeth and formation of cavities and/or reducing the hypersensitivity of dentin using said complex, further comprising a step of rinsing with a sufficient amount of water or an aqueous solution, to cause precipitation of zinc oxide from the mouthwash.

EFFECT: high solubility of the zinc amino acid halide complex in combination with the ability to precipitate a zinc compound upon dilution with water provides an effective concentration of zinc ions for tooth enamel and the formation of a precipitate that can close the dentinal tubules during the use of the composition.
