SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the control of the performance of a long-hole mining system, which contains a long-hole cutting machine and a conveyor, such as a downhole scraper conveyor or a cantilever loader. A computer-implemented method for the control of the operation of a mining system containing a cutting machine and a conveyor is proposed, in which a position of the cutting machine is determined, using a processor, based on the first signal from the first sensor, wherein the first signal is associated with the position of the cutting machine. A load of the conveyor is determined, using the processor, based on the second signal from the second sensor, wherein the second signal is associated with the load of the conveyor. The performance of the mining system is determined, using the processor, based on the determined position of the cutting machine and the determined load of the conveyor. The first control signal is generated for the first drive mechanism to control the speed of the cutting machine, using the processor, based on the determined performance of the mining system; and the second control signal is generated for the second drive mechanism to control the speed of the conveyor, using the processor, based on the determined performance of the mining system. Controller options for the mining system, which includes a cutting machine and a conveyor, are also claimed, wherein the controller includes a non-volatile machine-readable medium and a processor, while the controller contains executable commands stored in the machine-readable medium to control the operation of the mining system.
