FIELD: processing of metals.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to overhead chipbreakers for turning tools and can be used in the engineering industry. The overhead chipbreaker for a turning tool is made in the form of a truncated cone with a chip-breaking edge with a central hole for fastening. The generatrix of the conical surface is placed at an angle of 45 degrees relative to the vertical axis. The conical surface of the applied chipbreaker is made with grooves evenly spaced along the generatric lines of the conical surface. The chip-breaking edge of the overhead chipbreaker is made in its lower part with a conical surface, the generatrix of which is placed at an angle of 35-40 degrees relative to the vertical axis.
EFFECT: chip breaking is provided in the process of turning metal blanks under various cutting conditions.
