SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol generating device. The controller of the aerosol generating device is additionally configured to: measure the capacitance of the capacitor by means of the first and second electrodes when the aerosol generating device is placed inside the cavity; supplying power from the power supply to at least one heater in the first power profile when the measured capacitance is within a predetermined first range; and supplying power from the power supply to at least one heater in a second power profile different from the first power profile when the measured capacitance is within a predetermined second range.
EFFECT: monitoring the amount of water present in the aerosol-forming substrate before heating the aerosol-forming substrate.
