FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to martensitic stainless steels used in the manufacture of rod medical instruments intended for use in dentistry and operating at high speeds. The steel comprises carbon, silicon, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, niobium, phosphorus, sulphur, iron and inevitable impurities in the following ratio, wt.%: carbon 0.2-0.45, silicon 1-1.5, manganese 1- 1.5, chromium 12-14.5, molybdenum 0.5-0.7, niobium 0.05-0.1, phosphorus not more than 0.02, sulphur 0.15-0.35, the rest is iron and inevitable impurities.
EFFECT: high machinability, as well as high hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
