SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the modification of thin films, powders, aerogels and dispersions based on carbon materials. The method of doping carbon-based material with nitrogen oxide (IV) includes processing the carbon-based material at a temperature of 50-500°C or when irradiated with UV, visible or IR light in an environment comprising a source of nitric oxide (IV) for 1 second to 3 months. The concentration of nitric oxide (IV) ranges from 10-4 up to 99 vol. %. Single-layer carbon nanotubes, multilayer carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, graphene, low-layer graphite are used as carbon-based material.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to obtain stable forms of carbon materials doped with nitrogen oxide.
