FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in various industries, such as automotive, machine tool, etc., for hardening of parts made of low-carbon structural steel. The method includes exposing the surface of the part with an indenter oscillating with an ultrasonic frequency, which is pressed against the surface to be treated at an acute angle of inclination of 50-80° according to the angle forward scheme, in which the deviation of the impact direction from the vertical is set in the direction of the part feed direction. Before processing, an oil coolant is preliminarily applied to the workpiece surface, and before acting on the workpiece according to the angle forward scheme, the indenter is used at an angle of inclination to the workpiece being 50-80° according to the angle back scheme, in which the deviation of the direction of the impact action of the tool from the vertical is set in the direction opposite to the direction of the part feed.
EFFECT: hardness and depth of the hardened layer increase.
