SUBSTANCE: source of gamma radiation is used, placed on one side of the material, a collimator that provides translucence of the material in the geometry of a narrow beam, a detection unit located at a constant distance and coaxially with the source and the collimator on the other side of the material, perform the method of arbitrary sampling by multiple scanning of the material at different points, while the signal from the detection unit is sent to the selector configured to transmit the signal corresponding to the region of the gamma peak, which is transmitted to a timer-controlled random access memory, the data of which, as a result of direct measurements of the radiation intensity, is sent to a non-volatile storage device in which an array of data is formed characterizing the source radiation intensity measured in the absence of the material, as well as the intensity of radiation attenuated by the material at each point and the background radiation intensity measured in the absence of the source and the material, which are further used in automated indirect measurements of the material attenuation coefficients gamma radiation and are determined for each point as the ratio of the radiation intensity minus the background to the intensity of the radiation attenuated by the material minus the background, while the radiation is received from a source having an activity less than the minimum significant activity (MSA) at the workplace.
EFFECT: ensuring the possibility to carry out quality control of radiation-protective materials and finished products in a safe manner and with high accuracy.
