FIELD: paper industry.
SUBSTANCE: in order to make paper having opacity and filler retention, the step of adding Additive A and Additive B to the slurry at the wet end of the paper machine is carried out. The suspension contains paper pulp and filler. Additive A is a polyamidoamine epichlorohydrin resin. Additive B is an anionic polymer having a charge density determined in a buffer having a pH value of 6, between -3000 and -7000 mceq/g on a dry matter basis. Additive B is a polyacrylamide which is a reaction product of acrylamide and acrylic acid and has a weight average molecular weight of 173,000 to 646,000 g/mol. The suspension contains less than 5% by weight of additives other than Additives A or B or filler.
EFFECT: improved filler retention and paper opacity are provided.
