SUBSTANCE: invention is intended to ensure the operation of telescopes in the presence of bright fast-moving objects in the observation area. The method of guiding the telescope consists in the fact that initially the direction in the field of location of the reference stars used for guiding the telescope is determined. The radius of the field of observation is set one to ten degrees more than the radius of the field of location of the reference stars. An optical device is directed to the field of observation. The signal received by the optical device in the field of observation is processed, bright objects are fixed and their speed and direction of movement are determined. Of the fixed objects, those are selected whose speed and direction indicate that they belong to the class of stars, and data on these objects are used to guide the telescope. The device includes an optical observation device with an observation field radius of one to ten degrees greater than the radius of the reference star location field, a unit for determining the parameters of bright objects, a guiding unit, and a unit for determining the parameters of bright fast-moving objects.

EFFECT: increased efficiency of operation of a ground-based or space telescope by reducing the impact of optical radiation from bright fast-moving objects on the operation of the telescope's guiding system.
