The fish protection device includes a control unit, a switch with keys, a power source and emitters capable of inducing a positive or negative reaction in fish and a forced change in the direction of movement, as well as a fish counting device and a unit for evaluating the efficiency of the fish protection device. Device performance Kef is evaluated according to the formula Kef = 100%·(N0-N)/N0, where N0 is the number or concentration of fish in the water flow directed to the hydraulic structure and/or water intake device, when the fish protection device or part of it is not working, N is the number or concentration of fish in the water flow directed to the hydraulic structure and/or device water intake, during the operation of the fish protection device. In another embodiment, the fish protection device includes a controller instead of a control unit.
