FIELD: breathing apparatus.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to compositions of chemicals used in self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) on chemically bound oxygen. The starting briquette of the self-contained breathing apparatus comprises the starting composition, the transition composition and the main composition. The starting composition in the amount of 0.86-2.39% by weight of the mass of the briquette comprises powdered zirconium in the amount of 20-30% by weight, potassium perchlorate (KClO4) in the amount of 10-20% by weight and sodium or potassium chromate (Na2CrO4 or K2CrO4) in the amount of 50-65% by weight. The transition composition in the amount of 1.99-4.31% by weight of the weight of the briquette comprises 2-6% by weight of amorphous boron, 60-70% by weight of iron oxide (Fe2O3), 25-35% by weight of copper oxide (CuO) and 1.5-2.5% by weight of chrysotile asbestos. The main composition in the amount of 94.83-96.09% by weight of the mass of the briquette comprises 4.0-8.0% by weight of powdered zirconium, 9-20% by weight of sodium superoxide (NaO2), 70-85% by weight of sodium chlorate (NaClO3) and 1.5-2.5% by weight of chrysotile asbestos. The starting composition is designed to launch an impact-type cap by a flame beam, for example, a Gevelot percussion cap and to initiate decomposition of the transition composition, which, in turn, is designed to initiate the launch of the main composition, which generates the oxygen necessary for the user. The starting briquette of the self-contained breathing apparatus has high performance characteristics when it is operated in an SCBA cartridge in the temperature range from minus 40°C to plus 55°C.

EFFECT: improved operational characteristics of the starting briquette, reduction of weight and size characteristics of SCBA and increased reliability of their operation.
