FIELD: communication equipment.

SUBSTANCE: antenna systems with beamforming, and more specifically to tracking a signal about a previous event. In some examples, the system may receive feed element signals corresponding to a set of antenna feed elements. To support the primary or real-time task, the system may process feed element signals in accordance with the first beamforming configuration to generate narrow beam signals that may include communications scheduled for respective narrow beams. To support a retroactive acquisition or search mission or task, the system may also store feed element signals over a period of time. Based on determining the target signal from the target location within the antenna coverage area, the system can process the stored feed element signals in accordance with the second beamforming configuration to generate a narrow beam target signal corresponding to the target location, and evaluate the narrow beam target signal for the presence of the target signal.

EFFECT: support for performing retroactive or iterative evaluations of stored signals, such as signals from feed elements, to identify various signal sources.
