FIELD: satellite communication.
SUBSTANCE: said technical result is achieved due to the fact that the illumination satellite in the first orbit, beam signals (e.g., communication signals carrying modulated data to user terminals) from an antenna array to different beam coverage areas in accordance with the beam forming matrix; each of the collection satellites in the second orbit receives beam signal reflections; reflected signals received on collection satellites, may be processed in accordance with beam signals and beam forming matrix used to transmit beam signals to obtain an image of a geographic area. In some cases, the collection satellites can relay the received signals for processing by the illumination satellite.
EFFECT: creation of an improved method and system for obtaining an image of a geographic region using a multistatic synthetic aperture radar using data collection in a low earth orbit.
