FIELD: video data processing.

SUBSTANCE: sub-pixel refinement of motion vectors. Methods, a computing device and a computer-readable medium for sub-pixel refinement of motion vectors are proposed, which perform the following steps: obtaining video frames, determining a predictive noise map per frame from the mentioned pair of neighboring frames based on a predefined noise model, performing a block motion estimate between video frames subjected to downscaling, and if the block is satisfied with the condition associated with at least the noise indicated by the predictive noise map for this block, refining the motion vector associated with such a block to sub-pixel accuracy. The way to find the sub-pixel displacement of the motion vector is either a conformal one-dimensional approximation of the dependence of the difference metric on the subpixel displacement, considered in one or more directions, or a two-dimensional approximation of the dependence of the difference metric on the sub-pixel displacement by a conical surface.

EFFECT: reducing the processing time and computational complexity of the process of sub-pixel refinement of motion vectors to ensure implementation on resource-limited devices.
