FIELD: materials.
SUBSTANCE: technology for producing strengthened syntactic carbon materials that can be used for technical thermal insulation under conditions of elevated pressures and temperatures. Strengthened syntactic carbon material is obtained by mixing hollow carbon microspheres, pre-treated with an aqueous or alcohol solution of a catalyst: vanadium (III) chloride, with a phenol-formaldehyde binder and addition of finely dispersed polydimethylsilane, moulding at a low pressure of 0.05-0.5 MPa, holding the mould at 150°C for 2 hours followed by heat treatment in an inert environment at 350-375°C for 4 hours. Final carbonization in combination with carbidization is carried out by raising the temperature at the rate of 50-200°C/h up to 800-900°C and holding the material at this temperature for 1 hour. The components of the mixture are in the following ratio, wt.%: processed hollow carbon microspheres 40-55, phenol-formaldehyde resin 20-40, polydimethylsilane 10-35.
EFFECT: production of a carbon syntactic material containing silicon carbide, which increases strength, hardness and wear resistance.
