FIELD: fibre optics.
SUBSTANCE: method for manufacturing blanks for light guides relates to fibre optics, in particular to the technology of manufacturing light guides from quartz glass. The method involves deposition of a porous layer of silicon dioxide on the workpiece when it is heated by a moving burner consuming natural gas - propane and air, which is pre-saturated with organosilicon vapour. The resulting porous shell is impregnated with a saturated aqueous solution of boron oxide and dried in an air atmosphere at the ambient temperature.
EFFECT: increased strength of quartz fibre drawn at low heating temperatures of the workpiece.
