FIELD: measuring technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to determine residual stresses in parts and workpieces. The method for determining residual stresses in rolled aluminium alloys consists in choosing the X-ray method as a research method, calibrating the device used for research on the selected alloy sample, pointing a source of focused x-ray radiation at it, measuring the stress along the edge of the sample, which is more susceptible to formation of residual stresses, at both sides. Depending on the sample material and its thickness, the value of residual stresses is determined using the formula:

where σn is the residual stress on the surface, MPa, H is the thickness of the sample, mm, yn is the distance from the point under consideration to the surface of the plate, mm.

EFFECT: creation of a method for determining residual stresses in rolled aluminium alloys without destroying the test sample and applying mechanical stress to it.
