FIELD: chemical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: mixing device for a downflow catalytic layered reactor. The device comprises a top plate having an inner surface and a periphery; a base plate extending parallel to the top plate, the base plate having an inner surface, a periphery, and an opening of the base plate, the top and base plates being spaced apart to form an interior space of the mixing device; a plurality of inwardly directed blades that are located in the interior of the mixing device and extend perpendicularly to and between the inner surfaces of the top and base plates, and the blades are directed inward from the periphery of the top and base plates to the opening of the base plate and are distributed around the area extending from the opening of the base plate to the periphery of the top and the base plates; and a mixing zone, wherein the mixing device does not have an overflow ring extending from the inside surface of the base plate or a cap tray extending from the top plate. The invention also relates to a downstream multilayer catalytic reactor.

EFFECT: effective mixing of fluids in the space between the catalyst layers in a multilayer reactor, while the mixing device occupies a minimum of vertical space and causes a minimum pressure drop in the device.
