FIELD: hydroacoustics.

SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for recognizing sea vessels of different displacements by their noise emissions. The method consists of standard noise direction finding procedures with the selection of low-frequency signal fluctuations for analysing the ship's pitch. When implementing the method, the sea state and sound speed are measured, and the signal is band-pass filtered with an adaptive choice of frequency band, depending on the measured parameters.

EFFECT: providing bandpass filtering in noise direction finding with a geometric mean frequency, optimal for further determining the displacement of a surface ship under current hydroacoustic surveillance conditions.
