FIELD: downhole operations.

SUBSTANCE: downhole intervention system includes a wire and a downhole tool connected to the far end of the wire and configured to pull the wire into the wellbore. Said wire has an inner tube enclosing one or more electrical conductors and an outer tube surrounding the inner tube. The downhole tool is electrically connected to at least one of the electrical conductors of the wire. The downhole tool is configured to receive and/or transmit data and/or power signals through at least one of the electrical conductors of the wire. The outer tube of said wire is made of a composite material that is electrically conductive. The downhole tool is electrically coupled to the composite material to allow current to return through the composite material to transmit and/or receive data and/or power signals. A method of operating a downhole intervention system includes electrically connecting a downhole tool to at least one of the electrical conductors of a wire at the far end of the wire. Next, the downhole tool is activated so that the downhole tool pulls the wire into the wellbore. Data signals and/or power are then received and/or transmitted through at least one of the electrical conductors of the wire, while the downhole tool is electrically connected to the composite material to ensure the return of current through the composite material when transmitting and/or receiving data signals and/or nutrition.
