FIELD: space engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electric propulsion systems (EPP) and methods of their operation. The EPP comprises a cylinder for storing plasma-forming gas and a system for its supply with a shut-off electrovalve, a control electrovalve, a throttle, and a receiver arranged in series along the gas flow. The output of the receiver through the collector and jets is connected to the anode unit of the engine and the cathode. The EPP includes a conversion and control system. In series with the switch controlled by the discharge current sensor, an additional switch is installed, controlled by the pressure sensor. When the engine is running, the pressure in the receiver is stabilized by turning on the control valve according to the readings of the pressure sensor. The discharge current of the motor is stabilized by turning on the control valve connected to the motor discharge current sensor.
EFFECT: simplification of the design and prevention of damage to the system.
