FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing ethyl-N-(3-hydroxyphenyl)carbamate of Formula I, which is an intermediate in the industrial synthesis of the herbicide desmediphan, as well as used in the synthesis of a number of other biologically active and useful organic compounds, consisting in the interaction of ethanol with triphosgene in the presence of a base in environment of an organic solvent in an atmosphere of an inert gas or in air without access to moisture, leading to the generation of ethyl chloroformate in a solution of an organic solvent, and the subsequent use of this solution without isolating ethyl chloroformate in individual form, in reaction with 3-aminophenol in the presence of a base in an environment of an organic solvent or its mixtures with water to obtain the target product, its isolation and purification.
EFFECT: new method for producing ethyl-N-(3-hydroxyphenyl)carbamate has been developed, which allows reducing production costs by eliminating the use of ethyl chloroformate in its individual form, increasing the safety of the process and obtaining a high-quality target product with a yield of 85-92 %.
