FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing N-(isopropoxycarbonyl)ethanolamine used as a plant growth regulator. Method is realized by reacting isopropanol with triphosgene in anhydrous toluene or o-xylene in the presence of a tertiary amine. Formed tertiary amine hydrochloride is filtered and the obtained solution of isopropyl chloroformate (without extraction of the latter in an individual form) is reacted with double excess of monoethanol amine in anhydrous toluene or o-xylene to obtain N-(isopropoxycarbonyl)ethanolamine. Tertiary amine used is pyridine, 2-picoline, triethylamine or N,N-dimethylaniline.

EFFECT: improved method of producing N-(isopropoxycarbonyl)ethanolamine.
