FIELD: synthesis of organic compounds.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing methyl-N-(3-hydroxyphenyl)carbamate, which is the most important intermediate in the industrial synthesis of the herbicide phenmedipham. The method involves the initial interaction of methanol with triphosgene in the presence of a base in an organic solvent in an inert gas atmosphere or in the air without moisture. This interaction leads to the production of methyl chloroformate in an organic solvent. Next, this solution, without isolating methyl chloroformate in its individual form, is used in a reaction with 3-aminophenol in the presence of a base in an organic solvent or in its mixture with water to obtain the target product, followed by its isolation and purification.
EFFECT: improving the technical and economic indicators of the technological process for the production of methyl-N-(3-hydroxyphenyl)carbamate by reducing production costs associated with the elimination of the use of methyl chloroformate in it in individual form, increasing the safety of the process and obtaining a high-quality target product with yield of 85-90%.
