SUBSTANCE: present invention is related to a bypass cap for a filter assembly comprising a bypass cap and a filtration method used, for example, in diesel or gasoline engines, internal combustion engines. The filter (10) contains a filter element (16) including a filtration material (126) capable of separating a first fluid from a second fluid having properties different from those of the first fluid as the fluid passes through the filtration material. The filter element includes: the first end cap (92) associated with the first end of the filter material; the second end cap (116) associated with the second end of the filtration material; a tubular element (114) extending between the end caps. The tubular element includes a plurality of openings (128), and the filtration material extends between the first end cap and the second end cap and around the outer surface (130) of the tubular element. The filter (10) also includes a bypass cap (32) coupled to the first end cap (92) and having a substantially circular cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bypass cap. The bypass cap includes: an inlet portion (54) capable of providing fluid communication between the inlet (38) of the filter base (12) and the tubular element of the filter element; and an outlet portion (58) capable of providing fluid communication between the filter base outlet (40) and the outer portion (52) of the filter element. The inlet section (54) and the outlet section (58) are in different circumferential positions relative to the central part of the bypass cap (32).
EFFECT: improved separation of water from fuel.
