SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for topography of areas of the lower jaw to measure the optical density of the cortical and trabecular substance on positron emission tomography scans (PET-CT scans). On PET-CT scans, the upper edge of the mental foramen is found in an axial section of the lower jaw. After that a slice is moved 2–3 mm above the mental foramen, using the ROI tool, rounded areas of cortical and trabecular substance with a diameter of at least 2 mm are selected. The optical density of the lower jaw is measured and compared with normal optical density values: for the spongy substance — up to 1,250 HU, for the cortical substance — from 1,250 HU or more.

EFFECT: method allows to quickly search for the optimal area on the lower jaw for densitometry of the cortical and trabecular substance when assessing the condition of the bone tissue of the lower jaw in cancer patients when planning chemotherapy treatment due to the anatomical landmark and normal optical density values for the spongy and cortical substance.
