FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: processing of low-grade oxidized nickel ores with a nickel content of no more than 1% to produce commercial ferronickel and cast iron. The method includes preliminary drying of the ore, its heating, followed by carbothermic reduction. After heating the ore, solid-phase partial reduction is carried out in a hydrogen environment to obtain partially reduced iron-nickel raw materials, followed by cooling. Then enrichment is carried out using the magnetic separation method to obtain waste rock and an enriched metallized fraction. Separation smelting is carried out to produce commercial ferronickel and ferrous slag with subsequent release of smelting products, after which liquid-phase carbothermic reduction is carried out by mixing ferrous slag with a carbonaceous reducing agent and melting the resulting mixture in a melting unit to produce foundry cast iron and waste slag.
EFFECT: reducing the consumption of carbon-containing reducing agent and increasing the environmental friendliness of the method.
