SUBSTANCE: invention relates to point cloud compression. Each point in the point cloud is associated with spherical coordinates representing an azimuthal angle corresponding to the angle of gripping of the sensor which has captured the point, and a radius corresponding to the distance to the point from the origin of coordinates. Encoding method involves adaptive quantization of the residual error of the azimuthal angle, calculated based on the azimuthal angle, depending on the radius.
EFFECT: high efficiency of compressing point cloud data.
