SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is related to a method for inhibiting corrosion of metal reinforcement present in a hardened concrete structure, the use of an aqueous solution of alkali metal nitrate, an aqueous solution of alkaline earth metal nitrate, an aqueous solution of zinc nitrate, an aqueous solution of aluminium nitrate, an aqueous solution of ammonium nitrate or a mixture thereof as a corrosion inhibitor, inhibiting corrosion of metal reinforcement present in a hardened concrete structure having one or more surfaces that are open to chloride incorporation. A method of inhibiting corrosion of metal reinforcement present in a hardened concrete structure having one or more surfaces that are open to the introduction of chloride includes the stage of applying an aqueous solution of an alkali metal nitrate, an aqueous solution of an alkaline earth metal nitrate, an aqueous solution of zinc nitrate, an aqueous solution of aluminium nitrate, an aqueous solution of ammonium nitrate or a mixture thereof on one or more of these surfaces, and wherein said aqueous solution of nitrates additionally contains an organic solvent selected from the group consisting of glycol ethers, including ethyl, methyl, propyl and butyl substituted monoethers ethylene glycol, more specifically ethylene glycol butyl monoether.
