SUBSTANCE: active material of the negative electrode of a lithium battery, namely to a composite ball of the active material with an electrically conductive core, essentially having no pores, with a plurality of particles of silicon or silicon compounds distributed over the surface of the electrically conductive metal core and some of the particles silicon or silicon compounds are embedded in the electrically conductive metal core of the composite ball. Silicon particles or silicon compounds can maintain good contact with the electrically conductive metal core during lithium alloy formation/decomposition. The electrically conductive silicon particle embedded metal core compensates for expansion of silicon particles or silicon compounds during charging and discharging of a lithium-ion battery. The effect is ensured by the fact that the particles of silicon or silicon compounds are in direct contact with the outer surface of the electrically conductive metal core, and the first average size of the particles of silicon or silicon compounds is more than ten times greater than the second average size of the particles of silicon or silicon compounds.
EFFECT: improved battery reliability and extended cycling life.
