FIELD: power engineering.

SUBSTANCE: grate element (1) as part of a grate in an installation for thermal waste treatment, in which the grate elements are staggered one above the other and are designed in such a way that, by means of translational movements relative to each other during combustion, they shift the burned material and move it in feed direction F. The grate element contains element body (3), made in the form of a cast part and having the following components: rear end (5) and front end (7), in feed direction F located opposite to rear end (5), upper wall (4) extending substantially parallel to longitudinal axis L of element body (3) and forming rear support surface (11) for the waste being processed, rear support surface (11) defining a substantially horizontal plane (23), and protrusion (13) located in the region of front end (7) and raised relative to horizontal plane (23), and raised protrusion (13) contains front supporting surface (15) rising in feed direction F to culmination point (17), as well as lowering end section (19) adjacent to front support surface (15) after culmination point (17). The descending end portion (19) includes release surface (21) that is substantially arcuately descending in feed direction F. In longitudinal section, as viewed in feed direction F, front support surface (15) is S-shaped.

EFFECT: ability to ensure a very uniform transfer of waste to be burned and at the same time creation of a uniform layer of waste on the underlying grate elements.
